Lars Marcus is an internationally leading researcher in the field of spatial morphology where he has led the development of the two most important research groups in the field in Sweden, first at KTH and next at Chalmers. Both groups have in international research reviews been ranked as being of international cutting-edge class. These groups have a size varying between 8-12 people, which is very large for any direction of architectural research in Sweden, and both have reached leading international positions. He has also been responsible for the developing original master programs and master courses both at KTH and Chalmers based on this research. He has as research leader recently finished a very large international collaboration with UCL in the UK and TU Delft in the Netherlands, creating an International Laboratory of Spatial Form; a unique research infrastructure for comparative studies of spatial urban form. He is currently deeply involved as expert advisor in Scandinavia’s largest urban development project, the RiverCity in Gothenburg. As a spin-off from his research, Lars Marcus is also founder and partner (until 2019) of the consultancy firm Spacescape that he started in 2000 and that today comprise 12 employees. Spacescape has created a market of new architectural services in Sweden and performs spatial analysis, design support and policy development in architectural and urban projects for architects, municipalities and real estate companies
